▸ Essentialist, the startup that offers a personalized travel planning service, exclusively for members, has closed a 1.17 million euros financing round from a leading group of Spanish and international investors led by venture capital firms Sabadell Venture Capital and Turtle Capital. Also, as we published last week, they are hiring frontend developer (30-40K€) to grow their tech team.

▸ The Government will promote a mobile application for the traceability of infections, which will begin to develop in the Balearic Islands as it is the first destination to receive tourists.

▸ Fundació Bit has exempted from their rent payment a total of 79 companies located in premises owned by the foundation located in the ParcBit and Center Bit during the entire state of alarm, which means savings of 181,183.84€ for the tenant companies.

▸ The radio program Balears Fa Ciència interviewed Pedro Duque, Minister of Science and Innovation.

▸ TUI and Booking.com have announced a strategic partnership on tours, attractions and experiences. Thanks to the agreement, Booking.com customers will have access to the product portfolio (more than 70,000) of Musement, a subsidiary of TUI.

▸ Ibiza’s Districte07800 will receive support from Fundació Bit for advising innovative and tech entrepreneurs and companies through the Emprenbit Program starting in June.

▸ For its part, Emprenbit has announced a partnership with AWS Activate, an Amazon program thanks to which Emprenbit companies will receive 10,000€ in AWS credits, support, training and technical resources.

▸ hotelbreak, the platform for booking day experiences in luxury hotels, was the winner of the III edition of Venture on the Road (Palma), the SeedRocket and BStartup roadshow through which they look for the best startup talent in the country. The company will compete in the national final.

▸ TravelgateX has been selected among the top 1.000 fastest growing European companies, according to Financial Times.

▸ Ara Balears has looked deeper into the security problems and vulnerabilities of the COVID-19 patient monitoring app presented a few weeks ago by Govern.

▸ On the other hand, Govern Balear is working, together with a UIB Research Institute and the Fundació Bit, in the development of a mobile app for the detection of COVID-19 and the tracking of contacts between people.

▸ Two startups from Menorca lauched different tools to help companies adapt to this new situation. On the one hand, Mi Menú, a digital menu service for restaurants that generates a QR code so that customers can access the restaurant menu and thus avoid contagions through the contact of traditional menus. ▸ The Conselleria de Salut has asked citizens to stop using the coronavirus pandemic tracking app within a few days of launching it and has requested the company that developed it to deactivate it because it puts user data at risk. ARA Balears has looked a bit deeper into this situation.

▸ Govern’s Education branch, with the aim of alleviating the problems that have arisen since the beginning of the period of suspension of face-to-face classes, as a consequence of COVID-19. It has acquired almost 3,000 devices and other elements to guarantee connectivity with an investment of 850,000 euros.

▸ The hotel experiences portal, hotelbreak, has launched a solidarity initiative in support of the hotel sector. ▸ The healthtech startup Meyo has closed an investment round of 600,000 euros.

▸ Govern has launched an application that aimed at patients with COVID-19 to assess their symptoms and receive instructions and recommendations, and for health authorities to collect clinical data. The ‘app’ is called Clinicovery and it is now available for download and has been developed by the Apploading company.

▸ It seems that the Government’s budget for this year will undergo important changes due to the crisis derived from COVID-19. One of the measures that would be affected is the expansion of the metro line that had to modify its route to add stops at Parc Bit and Son Espases.

▸ The university community has made six 3D printers available to hospital centers that belong to research groups from the UIB and IMEDEA. Professors and students have joined this initiative, offering their private printers to help hospitals.
